QR Codes: Boundless Possibilities

Recently, QR codes have begun to pop out everywhere but the question is if they are truly that useful? In a society where smartphones are becomes more and more common, the answer is: QR codes can be invaluable. QR codes are able to encode various useful functions. For businesses, Marc Lyne in his article details some of the more useful functions; functions such as: direct access to a specific URL, basic information (i.e. contact information, product details...etc) and special offers to name a few.

Using QR codes, businesses are able to greatly increase the accessibility to their products because they place their QR codes in areas with heavy traffic (people walking). Another useful aspect of the QR codes is that they can take customers directly to the desire webpage (hopefully!). Taking busy people to the webpage where they can find the information of the product they are interested in and be able to buy it on the spot is an asset for businesses because they will be able to retain interested customers that would otherwise get lost (or lose interest) in the process of looking up the product on their own or actually going to a physical store.

  1. Hi Jon,

I found your QR code picture really funny :). I couldn't agree more with you about how invaluable and important of QR codes are to businesses nowadays. There might be some security issues coming along with QR codes because we can't read hidden things encoded in QR codes, so we do not know where they will take us to or what information they will provide us. However, many businesses still benefit a lot from QR codes such as building relationships with their customers, offering their customers with promotions, and advertising their products and services.
